Summer Intern

The Summer Education Internship offers the opportunity to support Arts & Education at the Hoyt’s Education and Outreach team in conducting summer camp, coordinating community outreach events, and developing programming. Through the process, the Summer Intern will learn the basics of the education department’s role in the museum and the various programming offered to the community.

Position:  Education Intern

Location: Arts & Education at the Hoyt, 124 E. Leasure Avenue, New Castle, PA 16101

Reports to:  Paige Kleinfelder, Outreach Director

Position Type: Fixed term contract.

Duration: 11 weeks.

Hours:  Flexible. Some evenings and weekends required. 20 hours/week.

Salary Details:$10/hr.

Employment Period:    June 3-August 9, 2024

Prerequisites: You must be a currently enrolled undergraduate and have completed at least two semesters of college by June 2024. Students graduating in May or June 2024 are also eligible. You must be a resident of or attend a college in Lawrence, Mercer or Butler County and be able to provide your own transportation to and from work sites.

Through the process, the Summer Intern will learn the basics of the education department’s role in the museum and the various programming offered to the community.

The Intern will participate in daily classroom activities, supply management, audience research, in addition to on and offsite events. There are also opportunities to propose lessons for After School Arts, design and teach a workshop, and lead summer camp lessons. The internship includes an opportunity to meet with various members of the Hoyt staff to gain a holistic understanding of how the museum operates.

The candidate must have a strong interest in pursuing a career in art education and have personal skills and written communication skills.

Duties & Responsibilities:

CLASSROOM EDUCATION

  • Assist with classroom programing
  • Provide hands-on help for students
  • Assist with attendance records
  • Lead lessons periodically

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT

  • Gather feedback from current participants to improve future programing
  • Assist with lesson development for After School Arts (Fall Semester).

GENERAL EDUCATION

  • Participate in team meetings
  • Participate in Hoyt programs: Summer Camp, Children’s Festival, Art’s Club, and community events as scheduled
  • Assist with other special projects related to the interests of the intern
