Landscapes by DP Warner

D.P. Warner’s collection of landscape paintings, Different Views, on display in the Main Galleries, largely illustrate his reaction to the places he has traveled domestically and abroad. Something like light, contrast, color or atmosphere that has grabbed his attention to imprint the mood of that moment on canvas. In fact, many of the featured works were painted on location, while others were finished in the studio from sketches and studies.

“I enjoy communing with nature,” he says “being in her presence and contemplating her influences…. Photography can be helpful but is not a substitute for the original experience.

D. P. Warner was born in New Haven, CT and has lived in over a dozen states from the east to west coast. His earliest memories were always of playing outdoors, no matter the weather, and learning about the environment and nature. He used drawing to fill the gaps between moving and making new friends as a child, and picked up drumming in his teens.

That led D. P to enroll in Roanoke College for music, but he graduated with a degree in Visual Arts instead.  From there, he spent several years working in a gallery and playing with various bands until he became co-owner of his own gallery.  Eventually he returned to school to earn an MFA in painting from the University of Arizona.  He spent the next 30 years teaching art at the University of Arizona, University of Montana and Edinboro University and, most recently, Allegheny College. His work has earned numerous awards from around the country  including several Hoyt Regionals and the Butler Institute of American Art’s Midyear.  D.P. continues to produce and exhibit work from his Meadville studio.
