The Nativity and Other Arts of Worship

November 10 – January 21

The story of the Nativity has been a principal subject in Western art since the 4th century. This collection of 16th-18th century prints illustrates the humanity of Jesus Christ’s birth and related events. The exhibit is complimented by The Arts of Worship, a collection of objects illustrating arts role in worship since biblical times. Some decorative arts were designed to carry out rites and rituals. Other were intended to enrich the spiritual environment. Either way, these works of art were created to affect the spirit of those gathered to listen and to celebrate.

Guided tours by appointment Tues.-Thurs, 9 am – noon.

Visit the exhibit any time  Tuesday- Thursday 11 am –  pm, Friday & Saturday 11 am – 4 pm

Shoebox Parade

November 21, 5:30 pm

Who says you can’t have a parade? While the pandemic may have cancelled New Castle’s Hometown Holly Days parade this year, we’ve challenged the would-be participants to make parade floats from shoe boxes to parade down our make-believe main street! Traditional announcements will be made as each float is pulled in front of the camera and the resulting film will premiere on Facebook, November 21!

Join us at Cascade Park for a drive-in style viewing or host a watch party of your own at home! An on-line gallery of entries will be posted on Facebook, November 23-28, for public judging. The entry with the most likes wins a $500 prize! Co-hosted by New Visions for Lawrence County. Sponsored by Klafter’s, Pizza Joe’s and Northship Technologies. Deadline to enter November 7.

Gingerbread House Competition

The Hoyt’s emerging “junior board” is hosting a Gingerbread House Competition to spark the holiday spirit in teens and families with children. Houses do not necessarily need to be constructed of gingerbread (you can use cardboard, foam board or whatever is handy!), but it does need to look like a gingerbread house when finished.

Entries must be delivered to the Hoyt by Saturday, November 28 at 4 pm. Height and weight restrictions apply. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes will be awarded in each category based on those receiving the highest likes on Instagram. The Instagram gallery will be available for public voting, December 1-6. All entries will be exhibited amongst the Hoyt West Christmas décor, December 1 – January 8.
