Hedy O’Beil (1928 – 2022) was a well-known New York abstract artist. She was a two-time recipient of the prestigious Jackson Pollock – Lee Krasner Foundation Grant, in 2009 and 2014. Her commitment to gestural abstraction demonstrates a passion for combining colors to create rhythmic compositions. Her work is a study of the tension between control and experimentation and has been compared to improvised jazz compositions. She has also explored the work “With black ink and a wide brush.” Hedy had over 80 solo and group art exhibits during her career, including exhibits at the Museum of Modern Art, Westbeth Gallery, NYC, Philadelphia Art Museum, Guild Hall, L.I., Susquehanna Art Museum, Harrisburg, and the Carnegie Music Hall in Pittsburgh.
